CENTER GUIDELINES

Rules

Q:

WHAT ARE THE RULES OF THE CHILDCARE?

R:

“Have Fun, No Hitting, No Pushing, No biting, No Swearing, Respect, Responsibility, Listen to instructions, Always ask for what you need, No Running Indoors, and good Manners!”

The childcare service center provides a daily routine that is structured yet flexible in a peaceful environment, so that the children are comfortable with their surroundings and expectations. Kids like to know what to expect. Through careful guidance we strive to teach the children manners, kindness, how to be gentle with others, and respect for others and their belonging. And that can be done only if every child follows the rules. Any disrespect toward other children, the Provider, or the center items will NOT be tolerated. It is the right of each child to feel safe, secure and free to be themselves, and it is expected that children will behave respectfully toward each other.

Q:

HOW DO YOU ENFORCE THE RULES WHEN CHILDREN ARE NOT FOLLOWING THEM?

R:

At Maison Kinder, we believe in discipline, not punishment. We feel it is very important that a child is not simply told “No”, that they understand what they did, why it might be hurtful, and discuss what we can do in the future. In some cases a time out will be necessary. This is done on a chair and with direct supervision.

Food

Q:

DO YOU PROVIDE MEALS AND SNACKS?

R:

Yes, depending on your child status, nutritious and healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are provided daily at no cost to parents.

Q:

MY CHILD HAS A DIETARY RESTRICTION. HOW DOES THAT WORK?

R:

We are able to accommodate all dietary restrictions. Depending on the restriction, parents may be required to provide a substitute food for their child while at childcare. For example, if your daughter is allergic to milk, you would be required to supply soy milk, etc. for her to drink.

Q:

CAN YOU ACCOMMODATE ALLERGIES?

R:

We do accommodate any allergy in the centre. We are a nut free centre and do not allow outside food with nuts into the childcare service centre. We will provide any substitute for the menu item if there is an allergy issue.

Q:

CAN I BRING FOOD AND TREATS FROM HOME?

R:

You can bring healthy food but unfortunately, goodies cannot normally be brought from home. However, you will be allowed to send treats with your child to share for special occasions such as Valentine’s Day, children’s birthdays etc. The childcare service center will notify you for such occasions.

PLEASE!!… NO GUM IS ALLOWED AT the center!! It is a choking hazard. It also gets into carpet and on to furniture and children often have this tendency to “share it”!

Nap & Sleep over

Q:

IS THERE A SCHEDULED NAP TIME FOR ALL OF THE AGE GROUPS?

R:

Yes, there is a scheduled rest period for the toddlers and preschoolers. We recognize that some preschool children will not be comfortable about nap time and we are respectful of this. Children are encouraged but never forced to nap. Quiet activities such as reading or puzzles are provided for children that do not nap and calming music is played throughout this period of time to help the children relax and feel at ease with the rest period. Young children who are still napping twice a day are also welcome.

Q:

WHERE DOES MY CHILD NAP?

R:

In a designated area for sleeping. Each child has a cot labeled with their name and a cot sheet. Blankets are provided by the family and will be sent home at the end of the week to be washed.

Q:

WHERE DOES MY CHILD SLEEP FOR A 24 HOURS STAY?

R:

We have two designated rooms, one for the toddlers and preschoolers, and another one for the 6 to 12 years old. Each room has luxurious and comfortable mattresses. The center provides pillows and blankets that are washed every day.

Health

Q:

WHAT IS YOUR ILLNESS POLICY?

R:

Children cannot attend child care when they have a fever of 38.5°C (100 degrees) or higher, have consecutive bouts of diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting, have skin infections, undiagnosed rash, infected eyes or any contagious disease, have any parasite related condition, have unexplained or undiagnosed pain, have difficulty breathing or a sore throat with trouble swallowing. A child may not return to child care until his/her temperature has been normal for 24 hours (without fever reducing medication) and the communicable condition has been treated and ceased for 24 hours. The child must be free from symptoms and no longer infectious. The child should also be well enough to actively participate throughout the day, including going outside. In case of serious or unexplainable illness, a doctor’s medical clearance may be required prior to admission back into care.

Q:

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD BECOMES ILL DURING THE DAY?

R:

If a child becomes ill during the day, their parent will be notified and possibly asked to arrange to have the child picked up. We are all trained in RCR and in First Aid, and in any event the child’s needs will be met where possible. Non-prescription medicine will not be administered before the child is picked up.

Q:

WILL YOU ADMINISTER MEDICATION WHEN THE CHILD RETURNS IF NEEDED?

R:

We will administer medication if the child is able to still participate in all areas of the program offered: inclusive of going outside. The parents are responsible for completing the required form before anything can be given. This form can be filled out at the centre or at home as it is found in our website under “Forms & Documents” in our “Parents” section. Please note that over the counter medication such as Tylenol cannot be kept at the Centre for more than three days.

Q:

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE IF MY CHILD IS HURT AT THE CHILD CARE CENTER?

R:

You will always be notified immediately of any accidents at the childcare center that require more than a simple band aid. We have our Occupational First Aid, and will assess if the child needs emergency care. If the child needs emergency care we will call 911 right away.

R:

Books and blankets are always welcome.Toys, however, should be limited to one. We have a good assortment of age/developmentally appropriate toys here at the center for the children to choose from. Q:

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF IT MY CHILDREN CRY WHEN I LEAVE THEM IN THE MORNINGS? STAY? LEAVE?

R:

You can choose to leave or stay for a while, both ways have some goods. It can be good to stay if your child is not used to be left alone or not used to our center yet. We will be happy to help and assist your child to develop his/her autonomy and routine while he /she is away from you during the child care hours. For parents who want to leave, we recommend that you give your child the re-assurance that you will return as soon as you can, to give them a hug and a kiss, and to bid them goodbye. A quick goodbye is often better. 99% of the time the crying/clingy child is happily playing before the parent has time to leave the driveway!

Q:

HOW DO YOU COMMUNICATE WITH PARENTS?

R:

We promote open and regular communication between parents and us. Each day we will give you a brief description of your child’s day. Further, each full-time child has an agenda where we write what we did and how your child did during the day. We will also send home two reports throughout the year, identifying some strengths and /or areas of improvement. We encourage and appreciate parent’s feedback about all of our care services since we are there for you!

FINAL THOUGHTS
